These are all of the safety documents we have and use for build season and competition that you can use as a starting point for your own program to help it succeed.

Safety in the FIRST community

Safety Procedures From Team 4237

Remember, always report and log injuries!

In the event of a cut

  1. Immediately find an adult or safety captain

  2. Tell safety captain or adult exactly what happened

  3. Have the safety captain or adult apply bandages as needed

  4. If no one is available find the nearest first aid kit and do first aid on yourself

  5. If no first aid kit is available and if no one is available use paper towel and cold water to treat yourself

In the event of a smash or hit

  1. Immediately find an adult or safety captain

  2. Tell safety captain or adult exactly what happened

  3. Ask the safety captain or adult to apply first aid as needed

  4. Put ice indirectly on the injured area

  5. If no one is available find the nearest first aid kit and do first aid on yourself and tell someone to call 911 if the injury is serious or life threatening

In the event of a fall/slip

  1. Immediately find an adult or safety captain

  2. Tell safety captain or adult exactly what happened

  3. Have the safety captain or adult ask what hurts and where

  4. The safety captain or adult will apply first aid as needed

  5. If no one is available find the nearest first aid kit and do first aid on yourself and tell someone to call 911 if serious or life threatening

In the event of a drop

  1. Immediately find an adult or safety captain

  2. Tell safety captain or adult exactly what happened

  3. Expose the wound and carefully evaluate the situation and tell where it hurts

  4. Have the safety captain or adult apply first aid as needed

  5. If no one is available find the nearest first aid kit and do first aid on yourself and tell someone to call 911 if serious or life threatening

Safety Rules to Follow at All Times

1. ALWAYS wear safety glasses.

2. Make sure the robot is off when working on it.

3. No food or drink in the pits, by the robot or in the build room.

4. Wear closed toed shoes.

5. No running.

6. Wear ear protection when needed.

7. Don’t daisy chain (plug a power strip into another power strip).

8. Wear gloves when moving robot.

9. Keep work stations clean.

Steps to Calling 911

​

1. Stay calm

2. State address of emergency

3. Phone number you are calling from

4. Identify yourself

5. State the problem (ex: chest pain/shortness of breath/seizure/trauma)

6. State what actions are occuring (ex: CPR/AED/FIRST AID)

7. Follow the instructions given from 911 dispatch

8. Have someone wait at the entrance until help arrives

Stay on the phone until 911 dispatch says to hang up!
